Dr. Javier Dario Maldonado is the Chief of the Cardiovascular Surgery at the the Clínica Universitaria Colombia of the Sanitas International Organization and of Hospital Universitario Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá .
He was graduated in 1986 at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Medical Faculty where he finished his General Surgery training in 1991. He underwent his cardiovascular training at the Instituto do Coração in São Paulo, Brazil. He attended the Columbian-Presbyterian Medical Center Heart Transplant and Ventricular Assist program in New York (USA) between June and August 1999 and the Heart Transplant program at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland (USA) in May of 2005.
Dr. Maldonado was member of the cardiovascular staff at the Fundación Cardio-Infantil, Instituto de Cardiología, from 1994 to 2007 when he transferred to his present appointments. He was Chief of this Cardiovascular Unit from 2000 – 2002 and Founder and Chief of the Heart Transplant Unit from 2004 – 2007 at the same Hospital.
Member of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) he is also an active member of the Colombian Cardiology and Cardiovascular Society and the Colombian Physicians Association.
Additionally Dr. Maldonado is professor in Cardiac Surgery at the Universidad de Los Andes Medical Faculty, Universidad El Bosque and Universidad El Rosario in Bogota.
